SUBJECT: PRE-SUBMITTED NEW BUSINESS: IFPTE Sustainability Fund
BACKGROUND:
Across
the
The
membership of IFPTE is no exception.
Members
in several IFPTE Locals have had their union jobs outsourced to “for profit”
companies, and consequently have been forced to accept lower wages and benefits
with these companies.
These
IFPTE locals have been making Herculean efforts to reduce their costs. Yet as a
consequence of the attacks, they require even greater support from IFPTE even
as the IFPTE income from them has decreased.
IFPTE
gladly provides this support. At the
same time IFPTE as an employer has seen (and will continue to see) large
increases in medical costs, rent, utilities and supplies.
In
an effort to address the anticipated revenue shortfall, over the last two years
IFPTE has scoured its budget and cut it as much as possible. However IFPTE can no longer absorb all of
these increased costs.
The
affected locals report that their membership can only sustain a per cap dues
increase of $0.05 per member per month this coming year. Even with this proposed $0.05 per member per
month increase in the per cap, IFPTE will be running a
loss next year.
At
the IFPTE Convention, the delegates will be asked to approve a 2013 budget with
only $0.05 per member per month increase.
To
keep IFPTE from running a deficit, while they protect the embattled rank and
file, locals are being asked to contribute to a sustainability fund.
