NW16-022 SPEEA support for YES vote on I-1433 Raise Up Washington

It is moved that: The Northwest Council publically endorse Washington State Initiative I-1433, "Raise Up Washington," which will be on the ballot in Washington State this November. Further, the NORTHWEST COUNCIL approves support for publicity using the SPEEA website, newsletters, publications, and other communication resources to educate and encourage individual SPEEA members and retirees to get out the vote and to support passage of the Initiative. It is moved that: The Northwest Council supports labor council per capita adjustments not to exceed the rate of inflation.

NW16-019 Support of UNITE HERE LOCAL 8

It is moved that: The Northwest Council supports the UNITE HERE LOCAL 8 union workers at cafeterias on Boeing sites in the Puget Sound Region.

The Northwest Council further requests the Executive Board inform our members about this issue via our publications and information networks and urge our members to support these union workers.

In the event of a strike, the Northwest Council recommends a $3,000 donation to aid workers on strike.

M16-016 Charter a SPEEA Veteran's Committee

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council approves the creation of a veteran's committee as a standing SPEEA Council Committee and to charter the committee to provide an avenue for addressing the problems and issues associated with SPEEA's military employees and veterans, provide information and education to increase members' understanding of veterans' issues and to work with the IFPTE Veterans Committee to influence national positions, congressional legislation and administrative rulemaking.
