Prof & Tech Negotiations

July 7 Negotiations Update

Back to previous page

Our SPEEA Negotiation Team met again with Boeing executives on Tuesday, and for the first time broke into subcommittees to take deeper dives on topics surrounding work/life balance and career pipelines.

The career pipeline group discussed a range of topics related to our members being able to build careers at Boeing. These concepts included establishing clear pathways for more-recently-hired SPEEA members to advance their careers, improvements to the current Ed Wells Partnership and Learning Together Program, and guardrails around future use of artificial intelligence as an aid to workers, not a replacement for them.

The work/life balance group discussed concepts such as early retiree medical coverage, more consistent hybrid/remote work policies, and sabbaticals.

“Work/life balance is incredibly important to SPEEA members,” said Ben Merrit, a tool engineer who works in Everett, who is on the Negotiation Team representing the Prof unit. “All of us need time away from work to reconnect with family and friends, and to recharge with activities that bring joy and meaning to our lives.”

Neither side made written proposals. Talks will resume Wednesday.
