July 16 Negotiations Update

Back to previous page

Thursday was another busy day for your SPEEA Negotiation Team.

Our team:

  • Worked on counterproposals to Boeing’s proposed contract language regarding performance management and retention ratings.
  • Reviewed a Boeing proposal on certain issues specific to work done by members of our union’s Tech unit.
  • Discussed with Boeing concepts regarding hybrid and remote work.
  • Met with Boeing to discuss overtime pay and “on-call” work.

The Team also reviewed the data from this week’s survey, some of which was used Thursday in support of our Team’s position on overtime. The data showed that 20% of our members currently are being told that they must work overtime. Roughly half have been told sometime this year that working overtime was required.

“This kind of rapid response from everyone who took the survey is a definite tactical advantage for our team,” said Negotiation Team member Kevin Boyd, a production engineering tool designer and Boeing designated expert who works in Auburn.

Hybrid and remote work options and overtime policies all are part of our union’s efforts to improve work/life balance for all members, he said. “We’re trying to be very creative as we work with Boeing to resolve these questions.”
