Your SPEEA Negotiation Team planned to work well into the night Wednesday, carefully reviewing Boeing management’s latest contract proposals.
Earlier in the day, our team reached tentative agreements with Boeing on retirement benefits, flexible work locations and virtual work, the Learning Together Program, mandatory overtime limits, group health benefits, and the company’s use of non-Boeing labor.
“It seems highly likely that we will receive a final offer from Boeing very soon, maybe as early as Thursday,” said Matt Burgner, a quality investigator who works at Boeing-Everett. “We’ve come a long way, looking at every page of the contract, and we’ll continue to work hard until we’re done.”
Next steps
Under SPEEA’s governing documents, after the Negotiation Teams receive a final offer from Boeing, the next step would be for the Teams to present the offer to our union’s Bargaining Unit Councils, or BUCs.
Each BUC is comprised of all the Council Reps who represent members of each bargaining unit in the workplace. There are two that would be involved in this situation, one for the Prof unit and one for the Tech unit. There are currently 55 Council Reps representing Profs and 17 representing Techs; 20 more Council Reps represent both.
The BUCs will meet five days after the final offer is “lifted” from the bargaining table. The BUCs are charged with:
- Reviewing the offer
- Issuing a recommendation to members in support of or rejecting the offer (or issuing no recommendation)
- Calling for a strike authorization vote, should that be deemed necessary.
After the BUCs have reviewed the offer and made those decisions, information about Boeing’s offer will be shared with all dues-paying members who typically will have about two weeks to review the offer before voting.
