‘Me too’ clause in SPEEA contract set to provide cost savings, additional paid days off

Under Section 21.5 of the collective bargaining agreement that Wichita Engineering Unit members ratified with Spirit AeroSystems in 2024, the Wichita Engineering Unit (or WEU) has the ability to exercise a “me too” clause, should non-union workers in Wichita transition to the Boeing non-union salaried suite of benefits.

That is what has happened. Last month, Boeing notified SPEEA staff that non-union, non-executive workers at the company’s Wichita location will move to the Boeing Non-Union Salaried suite of benefits as of Jan. 1, 2027. (We should note that while the name says “non-union,” more than a dozen union locals across the Boeing enterprise have adopted some or all of this benefits suite, including our brothers and sisters in SPEEA’s Wichita Technical & Professional Unit.)

Overall, the Boeing Non-Union Salaried health and dental benefits are better than the Spirit WEU benefits, and they cost much less. In addition, the change would give all WEU members two to four additional days of paid leave each year, plus better parental leave benefits and accelerated annual raises.

SPEEA staff have prepared a comprehensive overview video of how your benefits and paid leave would be different under the new package. You can learn about the many advantages, as well as a few drawbacks, by watching the video.

After you have reviewed the data, take our advisory survey and inform our union’s leaders whether you’d support the change. (The survey will close at 6 p.m., Central Time, Tuesday, April 14.)
